Near-room-temperature reversible switching of quadratic optical nonlinearities in a one-dimensional perovskite-like hybrid

The switching of quadratic nonlinear optical (NLO) effects between two or more NLO states solid-state materials represents an intriguing new branch in the field photoelectrics and optics. While structural phase transitions have shown potential this field, near-room-temperature reversible switches rarely been reported. To exploit within structurally flexible class hybrid perovskites, here, we synthesize a one-dimensional perovskite-like hybrid, (MP)PbBr3 (where MP+ is 1-methylpyrrolidinium cation), through facile solution method, which exhibits strong second harmonic generation (SHG) activities with intensity ~1.6 times as large potassium dihydrogen phosphate. Intriguingly, enables near-room temperature SHG properties, showing contrast up to ~40 its SHG-active SHG-inactive phases, beyond most liquid counterparts. Further microscopic analyses reveal that dynamic ordering organic cation inorganic chain-like skeleton triggers centrosymmetric (P63/mmc) acentric (P212121) transition at 316 K upon cooling, resulting crucial contribution properties. This work illustrates material candidate for will promote development family low-dimensional perovskites.
